Congress Greenlights Legislation to Disclose Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The Senate on Tuesday quickly approved to a bill that will force the release of case documents associated with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, following a almost unanimous vote in the US House of Representatives and a shift by Donald Trump and his GOP allies. The White House gave in after an extended period of trying to forestall the joint action involving a case that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Congress

Senators proceeded by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, speeding up the process. Earlier that day, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a massive majority.

The public have endured sufficient delay. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited long enough,” the top Senate Democrat stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the chamber to pass it unanimously. “Let the truth come out. Ensure full disclosure.”

Next Steps

This legislation next will be sent to Trump for his signature. Trump indicated on Monday that he would sign the measure.

Although the president has for an extended period rejected the controversy over the official management of the scandal as a “political stunt”, he voiced approval for the House bill over the past few days, and said he would approve it if it reaches his desk.

Response

The Democratic party, along with survivors of Epstein and their supporters who were seated in a public section, applauded after the bill was enacted. The sole “no” vote came from Clay Higgins, who expressed concern he feared the measure would reveal personal information of witnesses, persons of interest and others implicated in the investigation.
